Add gas powered appliances inside or outside!
The demand for gas in a home depends on how many gas appliances you have. When sizing a gas system, it is important for us to evaluate the current BTUs (British Thermal Unit) in relation to the needed output. A common issue occurs when new appliances are installed without taking the gas sizing into consideration.
This is often found outside your home, often painted gray. These are how the gas company monitors and controls the gas going into your home. Most meters have a maximum amount of BTUs they can deliver, so upgrading/adding gas appliances sometimes requires increasing the meter size.
This is a measurement for gas pressure. Typically gas pressure stays low, but an adjustment can be made with the gas company to deliver more BTUs at higher pressure.
If you can smell it, that's bad. If you suspect a leak, we have testing equipment to detect gas in your home and can quickly make repairs. Sometimes, the gas company will shut the gas off to your home as a safety precaution, before telling you to call a plumber to make repairs. It then can take some time for them to approve turning the gas back on.
